FRIEDEL CALLS FOR PATIENCE WITH KEPA

Chelsea will try to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana at the end of the season. The Blues are looking for an ideal replacement for Kepa Arizabalaga. The former Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2018 in a world record deal for goalkeepers. He broke the record set by Allison Becker when he joined Liverpool from Roma the same summer.

The Spanish international enjoyed a good debut season. But he has failed to convince this season under new manager Frank Lampard. He has the lowest save percentage among goalkeepers in the league. His poor run of form has seen him dropped to the bench. He was dropped for a run of six games before making his comeback in the FA Cup. He was given the chance to redeem his battered image against Liverpool in the FA Cup. A match the Blues won 2-0. Willy Caballero has been chosen ahead of the most expensive goalkeeper in the world.

According to reports, Lampard has asked the Blues officials to look for a reputable shot stopper last December. The 41 year old manager has lost patience with Kepa following a number of high profile mistakes in recent performances.

Meanwhile, Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has called for patience with Kepa. He stated that he understands that modern goalkeepers are getting more involved in how teams play these days. He revealed that his success in his first year is good enough to suggest that the player is going through a bad phase.

Cameroon international Onana has risen geometrically in the past few seasons. He is a key member of an impressive Ajax side. Onana has also revealed in the past that a move to Chelsea will be a dream come true.
