Tottenham have successfully negotiated a friendly against the MLS All-Stars team as part of the upcoming pre-season tour.
This gives their goalkeeper Brad Friedel an opportunity to come up against some of his friends from the national team. Even though Friedel is no longer a regular choice goalkeeper at Tottenham, he continues to be a valuable team player with his experience and quality. The MLS recently received a major boost after several clubs like LA Galaxy and New York City FC brought big-name players. The likes of Frank Lampard, David Villa, Steven Gerrard, and Kaka are the latest names to move to the MLS, while more like Xavi are expected in the near future.
Friedel says that he remains hopeful that players like Lampard and Gerrard, against whom he has come up several times in the Premier League, will be able to take part in this match. Speculation concerning Friedel’s own future continues to be talked about, but the former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper looks very much part of the setup at Spurs. The match will be taking place at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on July 29. Spurs will be hoping to improve on their campaign as they are set to miss out on the top four
"It would be fantastic. Definitely Robbie Keane and Clint Dempsey will make the All-Star team and it will be interesting to see how many games Frank Lampard will have under his belt, how many games Steven Gerrard will have under his belt because it would be great to see those two as well.Playing at altitude, the Tottenham boys are going to be breathing a little bit. Denver is a fantastic city, picturesque with the Rocky Mountains in the distance. I think MLS is going to grow at a rapid rate,” said Friedel.
